Bankstown Sporting Hall of Fame
Bankstown Sporting Hall of Fame

Background

In August 2011, Council endorsed the proposal to revive the Bankstown Sporting Hall of Fame within the new Centre of Excellence being constructed at Bankstown Memorial Park.

The Sporting Hall of Fame will be an interactive, educational resource that will acknowledge and honour members of the Bankstown community for their outstanding sporting achievements. The Hall of Fame will serve as a point of interest to residents, visitors, sport enthusiasts and school children.

In 1988 Bankstown City Council established a Sporting Hall of Fame as part of the Bicentenary Program. 101 names, representing 25 different sports were included on a roll of honour or board that was unveiled on November 26, 1988. The original intention was for Council to add new names as they qualify. However, this only happened in 1991 when a further 7 names were recognised and added to the board. The board of honour is now located in the Bankstown Sports Club and has not been updated since 1991. Athletes already inducted into the hall of fame include Steve and Mark Waugh, John and Isla Konrads, Terry Lamb and many more!

Nominations are now open for the Hall of Fame, anyone can submit a nomination, you just need to download the attached form complete it and send it to Council or alternatively complete the online form. The selection criteria is also available to download.

*The 2012 Bankstown Sporting Hall of Fame will recognise all inductees from the 1988 Hall of Fame by automatically inducting them into the new Sporting Hall of Fame. A complete list of the 1988 Hall of Fame can be found following the link below.
