Midnight Basketball is a free program that provides young people in Bankstown with the opportunity to develop their basketball skills, make new friends and have a safe enjoyable activity to participate in on Saturday nights.
The Midnight Basketball Program is a collaborative effort between Bankstown City Council, Midnight Basketball Australia and has been supported through the NSW Government Better Futures Strategy. The assistance of local services and volunteers has been crucial to get the program running and Council acknowledges the valuable support provided by Bankstown YMCA, Greenacre Neighbourhood Centre, Coolaburoo Neighbourhood Centre, TAFE NSW, Youth Off The Streets and HopePoint Church, Georges Hall.
The free program is open to boys and girls aged between 12 and 18 years who reside or attend school in the Bankstown LGA. In addition to the games the players will also receive a nutritious meal and a safe bus ride home at the end of the night. As part of this program there will be a range of compulsory workshops focusing on essential life skill topics such as: health and wellbeing; conflict resolution; communication and decision making; cultural development and awareness; and community engagement skills.
