Council is made up of twelve Councillors including the Mayor. The twelve Councillors each represent one of the four Wards that make up Bankstown, while the Mayor represents all the Wards. The suburbs contained within the four Wards of the City can found on the Wards page.
Councillors are voted in by the local community to represent them on local public issues. The Mayor and Deputy Mayor are elected every twelve months by the Councillors.

Local Government elections were held on 8 September 2012 and the following Councillors have been elected for the 2012-2016 term of Council.
