Bankstown Council maintains around 1,040 hectares of land, providing opportunities for people to participate in both active and passive recreation. This includes 39 sports field complexes with 173 winter and 147 summer sporting fields, including the International standard (Olympic) Dunc Gray Velodrome and The Crest synthetic athletics track.

Bankstown Council owns Sefton Golf Course, which is one of few golf courses that remain in public ownership. It is an 18-hole, par 3 course, and being relatively short and flat is very user-friendly. Sportsgrounds in the Bankstown Local Government Area cater for a wide variety of sporting codes. Throughout the winter and summer seasons, sportsgrounds are allocated to various codes for training and match play.
