Seniors

Bankstown City Council offers services for seniors such as Meals on Wheels, Library Outreach, Seniors' Week.

Council works closely with local aged-related organisations and coordinates the Bankstown Seniors and its events.  Bankstown Seniors meets quarterly and is open to all senior groups and aged workers from the local area. 

Council is a member of the Ageing and Disability Forum Executive Committee and collaborates with the community on various other projects and committees.

These Information Sessions are part of the Senior Lifestyle Expo at Bankstown Town Hall on the 17th of March, Tuesday, between 9 am and 1 pm. 

Grandparenting Workshop and Storytime
Friday, 20th of March, 10 am to 1 pm
Ground Floor, Bankstown City Library

Qualified and experienced workshop facilitator from Play Power will discuss the different stages of a child's development, the importance of play and some practical tips on improving grandparenting skills.

Bankstown Seniors
For all the Seniors in Bankstown


Bankstown Seniors started in early 2007 to give various senior groups and aged services the opportunity to get together and exchange news, information and ideas.  There are four meetings a year.  Past guest speakers presented on How to Access Aged Services, Community Participation in the Health Setting, Bankstown University of the Third Age, Wellness Workshop, Older People and Legal Issues, and Understanding and Simplifying Technology.  Events and activities have included a trip to Homebush Park, Leura and Sharing of Cultures. 

All senior groups and aged services are welcome to send a representative to
the following meetings from 10 am to 11.30 am at the Lansdowne Room, Bankstown Town Hall:

  • 12 May 2009- Guest speakers include NSW Senior Peer Education Centre, Amity Aged Care Facility at Greenacre and Tripoli and Mena (to be confirmed)
  • 11 Aug 2009- guest speaker to be confirmed
  • 10 Nov 2009- guest speaker to be confirmed

Bankstown University of the Third Age

Bankstown University of the Third Age or BU3A is a membership-based
learning group run by seniors for seniors within the Bankstown local areas.  There are no exams.  The only requirements are motivation and time to learn once you are semi-retired or retired. The groups on offer are fun, casual and interesting, ranging from Ballroom Tango to Bushwalking.
