Noise pollution

Excessive noise is not only disruptive, but is often the start of neighbourhood disputes. There is legislation that prevents people creating excessive noise and there are ways neighbourhood noise can be dealt with. The NSW Department of Environment and Climate Change has released a range of publications on noise. They cover information on:

• Dealing with barking dogs - demonstrates ways to prevent your dog from barking excessively and identifies laws that apply to noisy dogs.
• Managing vehicle noise - outlines legislation that applies to noisy vehicles and lists ways in which you can avoid having a noisy vehicle.
• Dealing with neighbourhood noise - identifies types of neighbourhood noise, time restrictions on certain types of noise, and the steps you can take to prevent noise being an issue for you.
• Managing noise from intruder alarms
• Seeking noise abatement orders - information on how to take action independently of Council or another regulator to stop offensive noise from neighbours.
