1956 Floods: East Hills | As with all communities, Bankstown is and can be affected by various types of natural and human-caused disasters.
The management of such disasters is covered by the State Emergency and Rescue Management Act 1989. To meet requirements under this Act and ensure we are prepared for a local disaster, a Bankstown Local Emergency Committee was formed. Council staff chair and provide administrative support for this committee. To ensure a coordinated approach to emergencies, the Committee is subject to the direction of the Georges River District Emergency Management Committee, which in turn is responsible to the State Committee, where coordination and support is required.
The Committee includes representatives from Council, the State Emergency Service, Police and other stakeholders.
