Get involved in your local environment!
Are you interested in becoming a Bushcare volunteer? Council's Bushcare program gives residents the opportunity to learn about bushland in their local area and play a part in restoring it to its former glory. Council also runs a range of environmental events such as workshops, guided walks, planting days and plant giveaways throughout the year.
The Bushcare calendar contains meeting dates, times and locations for all our local Bushcare groups.
Or have a look at Bankstown Naturally Newsletter for volunteer activities, training, and important dates to remember.
Streamwatch is another great opportunity to volunteer - groups of local students and residents monitor the water quality of our local creeks and rivers.

Green living
It's easy to reduce the impact your lifestyle has on the Environment. Simply reduce the amount of water and energy you use, plant native plants, compost your waste, use fewer chemicals in your home and garden, be more aware of what you put in your shopping trolley or make sure your pets don't have a negative impact on the environment.

Noise pollution
Excessive noise is not only disruptive, but is often the start of neighbourhood disputes. There is legislation that prevents people creating excessive noise and there are ways neighbourhood noise can be dealt with. The NSW Department of Environment and Climate Change has released a range of publications on noise. They cover information on:
-
Dealing with barking dogs - demonstrates ways to prevent your dog from barking excessively and identifies laws that apply to noisy dogs.
- Managing vehicle noise - outlines legislation that applies to noisy vehicles and lists ways in which you can avoid having a noisy vehicle.
- Dealing with neighbourhood noise - identifies types of neighbourhood noise, time restrictions on certain types of noise, and the steps you can take to prevent noise being an issue for you.
- Managing noise from intruder alarms
- Seeking noise abatement orders - information on how to take action independently of Council or another regulator to stop offensive noise from neighbours.

Contaminated land
The land within Bankstown has many different uses including residential development, agricultural, industrial, and commercial purposes. Some of these uses may cause land to become contaminated due to generation of waste products and the use of chemicals, oils and fuels. If land is contaminated, it can have serious effects on human health and the environment. You can visit the contaminated land page for more information on this important topic.
