Bankstown City Council has today imposed further orders on the owners and strata management of 4 West Terrace, the scene of last week’s fire in Bankstown.
These are in addition to those already imposed.
The additional orders require:Removal of atrium roof and horizontal louvres;Ensuring there is an adequate stormwater system once the roof is removed;Provision of slip resistance on bottom tiled floor and balcony access areas;Making safe the electrical system on balconies (powerpoints);Addressing the structural adequancy of balestrades;Provision of a fire safety certificate.
The order to remove the roof and louvres has been made on the recommendation of NSW Fire and Rescue.
The Bankstown Local Emergency Management Committee (LEMC) has established an information centre for affected residents at 7 West Terrace (Bankstown Senior Citizens’ Centre). That centre opened just after 3pm yesterday (12 September).
The information centre operating hours are:
Monday to Friday 9am-5pm and weekend 9am-1pm.
More than 120 people have been assisted to date, just over 100 in the first two hours yesterday.
Concerned residents of 4 West Terrace can attend the information centre and discuss any issues relating to the impact of the fire with relevant authorities.The following will be represented at the information centre:
Strata Managing Agent;CHU Underwriting Agencies (insurance company);Housing NSW;Council;SES;Centrelink; andRed Cross.
