Hundreds of children are expected to rush to fill the limited spots available in Bankstown’s inaugural Twilight Soccer program during the school holidays (24-25 September).
Bankstown City Council Mayor, Khal Asfour, said Twilight Soccer follows the success of Council’s Midnight Basketball program.
“Early indications are the two-day Twilight Soccer event will be one of the most anticipated youth programs this year with places filling fast,” Mayor Asfour said.
“Twilight Soccer is open to children aged 12 to 18 with only 50 places available and they are filling fast.
“The big plus is it is FREE with uniforms, equipment, transportation to and from the venue and meals provided at no cost.
“It’s great to see yet another youth sporting initiative underway and already showing early signs of success.”
Mayor Asfour said he hoped the program would attract non soccer players and young residents from disadvantaged backgrounds.
“This initiative is about encouraging fit and healthy lifestyles and building a sense of community through team sport and interaction,” Mayor Asfour said.
The program will be conducted at Action Indoor Sports Centre (54 Hoskins Street, Bankstown).
Volunteers are also being sought to assist with coaching and managing teams, scoring and time-keeping, transporting children to and from the venue, and helping distribute food and drinks.
Children interested in registering for the program or volunteers able to assist should contact Council’s Project Officer on 9707 9092 or click on link below.
A full six-week tournament is also being scheduled for Term 1 in 2013.
