Bankstown City Council Mayor, Councillor Khal Asfour, called in the big guns today to help him deliver hundreds of items of food to the Salvation Army.
Council joined forces with the Bulldogs and News Local earlier this month to encourage the community to donate non-perishable food items to the Salvos Winter Food Drive.
Mayor Asfour said Council staff responded magnificently.
“Our staff always support these great causes but I think they’ve outdone themselves on this occasion,” Mayor Asfour said.
“They have donated around 300 items of non-perishable food.
“One of our security guards led the charge, donating $270 worth of goods himself which is a fantastic effort.
“We’re hoping other organisations and businesses in the city have also responded to the Salvos’ call for help.”
Today, the Mayor was joined by star Bulldogs’ half, Josh Reynolds, and club legend Terry Lamb who collected the donated items for Major Phillip Pleffer from the Salvos.
