Bankstown‘s senior residents were out and about last week celebrating Seniors Week, 18-25 March 2012, through a range of Council events held both locally and further afield.
Mayor of Bankstown, Khal Asfour was pleased to see Bankstown’s senior residents well and truly making the most of the week long celebrations.
“Council would like to thank all our seniors who joined in the fun and activities of Bankstown Seniors Week,” said the Mayor of Bankstown Clr Khal Asfour.
“I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to meet some of our local seniors at the Seniors Spectacular and Golf Day events” Mayor Asfour said.
The week of festivities kicked off with the Seniors Spectacular at Bankstown Sports Club thrilling over 400 audience members with performances from Judy Stone, Paul Stevens and members of Bankstown’s own Talent Advancement Program.
A key highlight of each year’s Seniors Week is the annual Coach Tours. This year, the coaches headed south, with a quick stop at Kiama, followed by lunch at Shellharbour. More than 500 local seniors took part in the trips over their three days of operation.
Our senior residents proved that despite their age they are still an active bunch with Council hosting several health and fitness activities throughout the week including a Tennis Day at Rose Park.
Our golfing fans showed their support at the Seniors Golf Competition. The day was absolute hit with over 100 men and women teeing off at the Sefton Golf Course.
Bankstown Trotting Club once again put on a wonderful lunch with great entertainment for over 100 guests at their annual Meals on Wheels and Day Care Recipients Concert.
Council’s Aged Care Nursing Home Concert, held at the Greyhound Social Club, attracted over 200 guests, with entertainment by local superstars The Rookwood Rockers and balladeer Gerard Cafe.
Gardening For Everyone, hosted by the Revesby Workers Garden Club, has rooted itself as another great local event, with around 300 budding gardeners joining guest speaker Sandra Ross (celebrity gardener from 2GB) for the day, and were inspired by the many displays and demonstrations.
Council has a huge variety of activities all year round for our senior residents.
