Bankstown City Council is inviting the community to celebrate our diversity by attending Harmony Day celebrations on Tuesday, 21 March 2011.
This year’s theme of ‘Play, engage, inspire’, recognises the important role and positive influence that sport has in our multicultural nation.
“Harmony Day provides us with an opportunity to celebrate the multitude of cultures that call our great City home,” said the Mayor of Bankstown, Clr Khal Asfour.
“Sport plays an important role in the history of our City and throughout the years has been a great avenue to unite the diverse cultures that reside in the Bankstown area,” Mayor Asfour said.
Council will yet again celebrate Harmony Day and proudly host a Multicultural Sport Expo to showcase sporting opportunities available in Bankstown for people of all ages including AFL, Soccer, Tai Chi.
“The Multicultural Sports Expo will provide opportunities to play, engage and inspire and will build on the success of our Active Bankstown program through showcasing the variety of sports programs and cultures in our area,” Mayor Asfour said.
Harmony Day’s Multicultural Sports Expo will take place at on Tuesday 21 March 2012 from 3:30 to-7pm at Bankstown Memorial Inner Oval, Cnr Chapel Road Sth and Macauley Ave Bankstown.
Residents attending the FREE expo will be provided with an opportunity to meet stars from Sydney FC’s W-League Women’s soccer competition, learn about the "Active after school program", participate in sports demonstrations and enjoy a free BBQ.
