Sydney’s sporting superstars are set to unite at Bankstown City Council’s annual FREE Recreation Expo in just over a week’s time.
A key highlight of the Active Bankstown program, the award winning Recreation Expo will take place on Saturday 10 March 2012.
Mayor of Bankstown Clr Khal Asfour believes the FREE Recreation Expo provides an excellent opportunity for the Bankstown community to discover more about the sport and recreation opportunities available in the Bankstown area.
“Council is committed to promoting an Active Bankstown and proud of our history as a City of sport, with a great range of recreational activities and programs on offer for the benefit of our Community”, said the Mayor of Bankstown Clr Khal Asfour.
“The annual Recreation Expo provides residents with an opportunity to discover what’s on offer and find out more about the variety of sports and physical activities available in the Bankstown area.
“This year’s Expo welcomes the superstar players of the Sydney Kings, Greater Western Sydney Giants and NSW Swifts Netball team and features something for everyone, no matter what your fitness level, with over 40 organisations participating on the day”, Mayor Asfour said.
Major highlights on the day include appearances from players from the Sydney Kings, Sydney Swifts, including world champion Australian Diamonds team member, Susan Pratley and the newest team to the AFL competition, the Greater Western Sydney Giants as well as a Skateboarding competition and the announcement of the winner of the annual “Get Active” photography competition.
Local skaters are encouraged to get to the event early with registrations for the skateboarding competition commencing at 12pm, with the competition itself getting underway from 1pm.
Aside from the major highlights of the day, there will also be numerous fun activities including; interactive sports demonstrations, dance/fitness performances and many promotions and giveaways.
The Expo is FREE of charge and will be held at Carysfield Park, Johnston Road (off Hume Highway), Bass Hill, from 10am to 2pm.
In 2009, the Recreation Expo was awarded 'Best Event in NSW’ by Parks and Leisure Australia.
