This year’s Active Bankstown program is set to be bigger and better than ever with its main highlight, the annual Recreation Expo, less than six weeks away.

“Active Bankstown is an initiative established by Council in 2004 to promote healthy lifestyles and encourage residents to participate in regular physical activity", said the Mayor of Bankstown Clr Khal Asfour.

"Since the launch, this program has developed a number of award winning programs and events such as Sport A Month, Bike around Bankstown and the Bankstown Recreation Expo.

“ This years Expo will feature the superstar players of the Sydney Kings and Greater Western Sydney Giants.

"Bankstown residents can also enjoy the numerous activities that Council has on offer throughout the year including soccer, cycling, hockey, water polo, Dive in Movies and Zumba," Mayor Asfour said.

Residents are encouraged to take advantage of free Active Bankstown Club membership, which includes a welcome pack, offers with complimentary or discounted activities and the chance to win prizes.

Aside from the major highlights of the day, there will also be numerous fun activities including; interactive sports demonstrations, dance/fitness performances, photography competitions, appearances by local sports players and many promotions and give aways.

Those wishing to enter the photography competition are invited to take a picture of themselves, their family or friends participating in a sport or leisure activity.

To enter your 'active' photograph into the competition, please visit the Recreation Expo section at www.bankstown.nsw.gov.au for the entry form and submission requirements. Select which category you would like to enter your photo into (amateur or professional) and return it via the details listed on the entry form.

Entries close on Friday 24 February 2012. Winning photographs will be announced at the 2012 Bankstown Recreation Expo and displayed on Council's website.
