Bankstown Mayor Clr Khal Asfour is urging all children in Bankstown to get involved with the 2012 Summer Reading Club program.
"The holiday period is a great opportunity for our children to spend time reading their favourite books and discovering new ones," Mayor of Bankstown Clr Khal Asfour said.
"Reading not only provides our kids with a fun, imaginative escape but also teaches them one of life's most invaluable skills.
"For every five books read, participants will receive a token of achievement and a chance to win some great prizes," Mayor Asfour said.
Registration for the program began on 14 November 2011 and will continue throughout the summer holiday period at Bankstown, Chester Hill, Panania, Greenacre and Padstow libraries.
Mayor Asfour said that members who returned their Reading Record by Sunday 22 January 2012 (4.00pm) will be invited to attend The Summer Reading Club Presentation Night on Thursday 9 February 2011 at 6pm.
The event, to be held at Bankstown Sports Club, will coincide with the 2012 theme "A Midsummer Knight's Read" with children encouraged to come dressed in magical and fantasy costumes.
"The program will culminate in a memorable evening event where children will receive recognition for their efforts and have fun with their peers," Mayor Asfour said.
