Registrations for round two of Bankstown Midnight Basketball program open next week, Monday 26 September 2011.
Starting in October, the free program will provide youth in Bankstown with an alternative activity on Saturday nights while helping them develop new skills in a safe and enjoyable environment.
The second tournament will begin on 22 October 2011 and run for eight consecutive Saturdays from 7.30pm until Midnight.
The program is open to boys and girls aged between 12 and 18 years. In addition to the evening training and games, participants will also receive a nutritious meal and a safe bus ride home at the end of the night.
An important element of the program is the range of compulsory workshops focusing on essential life skill topics such as health and wellbeing, conflict resolution, communication and decision making, cultural development and awareness, and community engagement skills.
In keeping with the Midnight Basketball motto of NOWORKSHOP NOJUMPSHOT, players must attend these workshops in order to take part in the basketball competition.
The Midnight Basketball Program is a collaborative effort between Bankstown City Council, local police and community organisations.
