This year marks the Centenary of the Guiding movement in Australia and to celebrate I was pleased to host a Mayoral Reception last Tuesday night. The reception was also an opportunity to acknowledge the valuable contribution of Girl Guides to our community. The Guiding movement has had a strong presence in our city for over 50 years with districts in Greenacre, Panania, Revesby, and Yagoona. Girl Guides is a wonderful initiative which epitomises the spirit of volunteerism and equips young women to great civic leadership. I commend the work of everyone associated with Girl Guides and for their commitment to keeping Girl Guides strong well into the future.
Clr Alex Kuskoff and I together with Minister Barbara Perry attended the concert Greenacre Senior Entertainers Father’s Day Concert on Friday. An entertaining program had been organised with the audience enjoying a relaxing luncheon following the concert. Congratulations to Hilda and Charlie Garwood and the Greenacre Senior Entertainers on organising such an enjoyable concert. It was great to see so many people in attendance on the day.
On Friday night vocalists from the Bankstown Talent Advancement Program (TAP) took to the stage for a concert at Bankstown Sports. I was pleased to attend the annual showcase and join with the audience in showing my appreciation on a fantastic concert. The TAP program continues to develop, encourage and support outstanding young performers and my congratulations to everyone involved.
Many in our community have been observing Ramadan for the last month and last Wednesday evening I attended the Lebanese Community Council’s Interfaith Iftar Dinner. The function was attended by a number of religious and community leaders including Councillors from a number of neighbouring Councils and Stepan Kerkyasharian from the Community Relations Commission. Thank you the Board and management of the Lebanese Community Council for their hospitality.
My thanks to Deputy Mayor Khal Asfour for representing me at the official opening of The Sanctuary Ministry Centre in Greenacre recently.
