Campaigns and Projects

Over the last decade the community has become increasingly aware and concerned about the deteriorating state of their environment. With this, there has been a huge demand for information from local residents, teachers, school students, community groups and other organisations that are interested in becoming involved in environmental projects and want to learn more about how they can help.

To meet this need, Council has integrated Environmental Education into its Ecological Sustainable Development (ESD) Group. Environmental Education is a powerful tool for facilitating behavioural change in the community and is thus seen as an integral part of environmental management. It not only creates awareness of environmental issues but also empowers individuals to become more responsible and active in achieving a common goal.

Good communication is the key, and Council uses a variety of traditional and innovative methods to convey information and encourage attitudinal and behavioural change.

The primary focus of our programs is to promote participation, and therefore assist in building an ecologically sustainable community that is aware, and has the skills to reduce the impact they have on their natural surroundings.

Bankstown Council's Environmental Education programs focus on a number of issues and target a variety of groups within the community.
